This Shiva temple is located in the area adjacent to the Perumal temple. Although this temple is a west-facing temple, it is located in the south side of the town.  Here the presiding deity is called as Lord-Agatheeswarar and Mother is called as Goddess-Soundaryanayaki.

Puranic Significance

Agathiyar got its name from the place of worship. It is surprising that there are many Agathiswarar Lingams in this area. The Temple is believed to be 1500 years old. To the west there is a temple. In front of him is a mandapam, in which the Nataraja sabha is also attached, outside the mandapam there is a Nandi altar in a separate mandapam. Ambigai is towards the south facing side. When entering from the south gate, there is a temple of Lord Vinayaka on the left side, while on the north side there is a large temple with Murugan Valli Devi. There is a Durga called Lakshmi Durga in Lord Karuvarai Kottam, who may have got this name because he is with Sangus Chakram. He is in Tenmugan koshta in the south. A short distance to the north-east of the prakaram is the shrines of Lord Bhairav, and Surya.
