Significance of Ganesh Chaturthi

Ganesh Chaturthi marks the birth of Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles, god of wisdom, prosperity, and new beginnings.

When celebrated: 4th day of the waxing moon (ShuklaChaturthi) in the Hindu month of Bhadrapada (August–September).

  3. PranPratishtha – Chant mantras to invoke Lord Ganesha into the idol.
  4. Shodashopachara Puja (16 Steps) – Offer 16 items like flowers, durva, modaks, fruits, incense, and aarti.
  5. Bhajans&Aarti – Sing Ganesh bhajans and perform aarti twice daily (morning & evening).

Days 2–10 – Daily Puja

  1. Offer fresh flowers, fruits, modak, and durva grass.
  2. Perform aarti and chant “Ganapati Bappa Morya” with family and friends.
  3. Some households also read the Ganesh Atharvashirsha daily.

Final Day – Ganesh Visarjan (Immersion): 

  1. On the last day (AnantChaturdashi), perform the final aarti.
  2. Thank Lord Ganesha for visiting your home and request Him to return next year.
  3. Immerse the idol in water, chanting:
    “GanapatiBappaMorya, PudhchyaVarshiLavkarYa” (Come again early next year).

Fasting & Offerings

  • Some devotees fast partially or fully during the festival.
  • Modak is the most beloved offering, as it is Ganesha’sfavorite sweet.
