Introduction

The Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple in Andipatti, located in the Theni district, is believed to be a powerful remedy for Balarishta Dosha—a condition in the horoscope that can affect a child’s health and lifespan, even in families blessed with children. Devotees visit this temple seeking divine intervention to protect their children from such astrological afflictions and ensure their well-being and longevity.

Puranic Significance

This ancient temple, as old as the Madurai Meenakshi Temple, is steeped in spiritual significance and has been home to many Siddhas, including the renowned Sivanandi Siddha, who performed miracles here. His Jeeva Samadhi lies beneath a sacred Vilwa tree, and the holy ash offered there is believed to cure prolonged illnesses.

The temple is a haven for those seeking mental peace, often chosen for meditation and yoga. Special pujas are performed to a Silver Vel to protect devotees from famine and poverty, and many believe that participating in these rituals ensures prosperity and happy marriages—hence, numerous weddings take place here.

Uniquely, both the Sun and Moon deities grace the temple together, prompting daily Amavasya Tarpan rituals. Unlike the usual presence of Sanakati Rishis near Lord Dakshinamurthi, this temple features Saptha Rishis around the rare Veerasana Dakshinamurthi form.

Behind the sanctum, the Lingodhbava shrine houses Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu alongside Lord Shiva, offering devotees the rare blessing of worshipping all three principal deities together—a feature also seen in the Tiruvadhigai Veeratteswarar Temple.

Festivals

The wedding festival at this temple is celebrated during the same time as the Meenakshi Kalyanam in Chithirai (April–May) at the Madurai Meenakshi Temple. Other important festivals celebrated here include Skanda Sashti (October–November) and Tirukarthikai (November–December).
